Draft a mission comment

September 2026 · Flights & Training

You have just graded a training mission exercise by exercise — a rating on each, a line of your own on the ones that needed it. Then you have to write the mission comment that says the same thing in prose.

Flylogs can now write that first draft for you, from the gradings you just entered. On the flight form, under each mission's comments box, there is a Create draft button.

A graded mission and the comment drafted from it

It reads the form, not the database

This is what makes it usable while you are still working.

The draft is built from what is on screen at that moment: a mission you added a minute ago and have not saved, a rating you changed, a comment you typed into an exercise ten seconds ago. Nothing is re-fetched, so nothing is out of date, and you never have to save first to get a useful draft.

You are still the author

The draft is added below whatever is already in the comments box. Nothing you typed is replaced.

You read it, change what reads wrong, and save the flight as usual. Until you save the flight it is stored nowhere — leave the page and it is gone, like any other unsaved change.

It will not judge the mission

It will not pass or fail the mission, will not call the student competent, and will not say anything should be repeated. You sign the record, so that judgement stays yours.

It will not invent anything either: no manoeuvre, rating or event that is not in your gradings will appear. Exercises you did not grade are left out entirely, because an ungraded exercise was not assessed.

And it will not soften a weak result. A low rating is described as a low rating — this is a training record, not an encouragement note.

Your own per-exercise comments are the most valuable input it has, and it carries your point through rather than rewriting it in its own words.

What it actually produces

From a mission graded 4, 4, 2, 3, 4, 3 — with "Slow and hesitant, several readbacks missed" on the ATC comms exercise and "Consistently wide on the downwind leg" on circuit recognition:

The circuit work was generally sound, with good briefing, flight planning, and traffic separation. ATC communications were slow and hesitant with several readbacks missed, and the downwind leg was consistently wide. The final approach showed a high flare but is improving.

Your own words come through as yours. The weak areas are named. The exercise that was left ungraded is not mentioned at all.

It reads your scale correctly

Flylogs courses grade on different scales, and the draft is told which one applies: a 2 out of 5, a STD -, and an N for not competent each mean what they should.
